pregnantThe pregnant woman is not sick, but has to take certain health precautions during pregnancy or at certain times of the same. The trips are not prohibited during pregnancy, and most women use different means of transport for their movements. However, is it possible to fly during pregnancy?

The Aviation Safety Agency (EFSA), in the section devoted to passenger rights, stops at this point and we clarify the situation in Spain to fly by plane when pregnant.

Airlines do not recommend making air travel when the pregnancy period exceeds 32 weeks. In any case, consult with the airline in question, since it is possible that the r pregnant passenger should sign a document, which exempts the company from liability for any eventuality arising result of her condition. In addition, some airlines put a limit a date prior to 32 weeks.

With respect to whether we need a medical certificate, only women with over thirty-two weeks gestation, or if the length of pregnancy is uncertain or if there are complications.

The certificate must be issued within seven days before the flight, in general, it is recommended not to travel within seven days prior to delivery or within seven after treatment. However, the Agency recommends consulting in good time if the airline can fly and under what conditions.

About the certificate, just recently we questioned whether an airline might request that the document in English, a non-official language in our country. It is best to consult the rules of the company about it, but in principle, the certificate should be written in any of the official languages of the country. The weeks are intended as a limit placed to avoid early delivery and not find a woman who gives birth on the plane, with the risks an unassisted birth.

Even with all these precautions and regulations, we can find cases of airlines that fly to not let a woman be pregnant even if it exceeds the allowable gestational age, or, conversely, do not ask the medical certificate requested. I have flown several times while pregnant, but not more than seven months. There are no risks in pregnancies with no problems. What we can consider are some recommendations to make the trip more comfortable, especially if the journey is long, on which I will discuss shortly.

Meanwhile, remember that yes you can travel by plane during pregnancy up to a certain gestation date is usually around 30 weeks, and flying with a medical certificate or signing a document under the special rules for airlines, which should be consulted in advance.
